Client Eligibility – all criteria must be met:
- Be between the ages of 5 and 14 years of age
- Live in the service area of BBBSSOGA
- Be from a family that lacks the involved and supportive participation of two parents
- Have needs that are appropriate for volunteer intervention in one or more of the following areas: Academics/Social/Cultural/Emotional-Behavioral
- Evidence of desire for participation in the program
- Custodial parent/guardian consent and support
In this program volunteer mentors agree to have weekly contact for one year with their Little. The weekly contact is to average 2 to 4 hours in length and will be activities in the community. Examples are: going to the library to work on a school project, going to a ball game, going to a concert, fishing, having a cookout or doing a community service project. The interests of the child and the volunteer are considered. Volunteers are thoroughly screened and the parent/child are also interviewed. Home visits occur for all parties. Parents approve all matches and their activities. All matches are supervised and supported by BBBSSOGA staff.
